Smt. Mahalakshmi Ashwin, Bharatanatyam exponent — Kalakshetra tradition
Dance and theatre productions form one of the most significant contributions of TAPAS Cultural Foundation to the classical arts landscape. All productions are conceptualised and choreographed under the artistic leadership of Smt. Mahalakshmi Ashwin — a Bharatanatyam exponent trained in the Kalakshetra tradition, known for her aesthetic restraint, clarity of narrative, and deep philosophical engagement.
Each production draws its inspiration from Bhakthi, Itihasa, Purana, and the dharmic heritage of Bharatavarsha. Every TAPAS production presents a balanced combination of Natyam, Sangeetham, and Roopakam.
Each of these productions carries its own devotional and narrative arc — performed across TAPAS’ major festivals and events.
The playful yet profound leelas of Sri Krishna — divine childhood and youthful exploits through expressive abhinaya. Balancing vatsalya, madhurya, and bhakthi, revealing Krishna as both the mischievous child and the supreme tattva.
Rooted in the Ramayana — the poignant story of Rama’s sons, exploring dharma, sacrifice, and destiny. Sensitively portraying Sita’s strength, Rama’s inner conflict, and the emotional undercurrents of separation and reunion.
The unwavering devotion of Prahlada — the triumph of bhakthi over arrogance and tyranny. Capturing surrender, faith, and divine grace, culminating in the appearance of Narasimha as the protector of dharma.
Inspired by the bhakthi tradition of the varkari sants and the worship of Sri Vittala of Pandharpur — weaving music, movement, and poetry to express the soul’s longing for the divine.
A devotional work on Lord Murugan — valour, compassion, and grace. Drawing from Tamil bhakthi traditions, capturing Murugan as divine son, warrior, and spiritual guide.
Traces the spiritual journey of Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi — inner transformation, silence, and self-realisation. Marked by contemplative pacing and minimalism. A profound artistic meditation on Advaita.
